No experience? No problem! We provide all the training you need.

How to Become a Volunteer Coach

We are always looking for coaches, assistant coaches, referees, and team helpers!

Step 1: Submit a Coaching Application

  • Pick up a hard copy at the Youth Sports & Fitness Office

Step 2: Complete Required Training and Certifications

  • National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) Certification
  • Background Check 
  • CPR and First Aid Training, as needed

Step 3: Get Assigned to a Team

  • Once cleared, you'll be matched with a team based on age group and sport

Other Ways to Volunteer

Not ready to coach? You can still help!

  • Game Day Support. Help with setup and check-in

  • Team Parent. Assist with organizing team communications and snacks

  • Referee or Umpire. Ensure fair play and fun competition

Coaching Expectations and Resources

All coaches will:

  • Follow the Youth Sports Code of Ethics

  • Create a positive, supportive environment

  • Emphasize fun and fundamentals over competition

  • Encourage good sportsmanship among players and parents

REVENGE OF THE HAUNTED BASEMENT (MWR's Haunted House at Patton Hall)

Prepare for a chilling experience as the "Revenge of the Haunted Basement" returns to Historic Patton Hall. Last year they took over the basement. This year they expanded to the upstairs. From October 28th to 30th, the doors will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for those brave enough to enter. For an admission fee of $10 per person, you can descend into the darkness where whispers of the past await your return. This terrifying event challenges you to face the horrors that lurk within the historic walls of Patton Hall. Will you survive what lurks inside?

FALL-O-WEEN FEST @ FORT MYER

Join the Joint Base Community for a spooktacular celebration at the Fall-O-Ween Fest on Friday, October 30th. This exciting event is a collaborative effort between MWR, The Old Guard, The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," and the entire Joint Base Community, promising a memorable evening of frights and delights. Get ready for live musical performances by TUSAB's Country Roads and Downrange Bands that will provide a thrilling soundtrack to the night's festivities. Prepare for an evening filled with "Fricks, Treats, and Community Fun!" designed for all ages. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities including a spooky Haunted House, creative Costume Contests, classic Hay Rides (AND HEADLESS HORSEMAN), and even some Pumpkin Smashing. Festive food and drinks will be available to keep everyone energized throughout the event. Stay tuned for event times and all the fun stuff planned here at JBMHH.armyMWR.com. Location: Summerall Field 3:30PM -- Games, Inflatables, MWR Food Tent & Food Trucks, MWR's HAUNTED HOUSE, and event OPENS 4:00PM -- Opening remarks and The Old Guard's Hayride begins 4:15PM -- Chili Cook-Off 4:30PM -- The U.S. Army Band's Country Roads Live Performance on Summerall Field 5:00PM -- COSTUME COMPETITION (Open to the public) 6:00PM -- Pumpkin Smashing Time 6:45PM/7:00PM -- Hayride closes (at darkness) 7:00PM -- The U.S. Army Band's DOWNRANGE "DERANGED" ROCK CONCERT at Brucker Hall 7:30PM -- Outdoor Movie at Summerall Field Begins 8:00PM -- Haunted House closes
