Class descriptions:
Power Yoga is a fast-paced cardiovascular workout focused on building strength and flexibility in the body through high-impact yoga postures. The definition of power yoga varies depending on where you practice, but there are some core characteristics that most power yoga classes have in common: Strength-building. In power yoga classes, poses can be held for up to a minute, helping to build strength in the targeted muscle group. Power yoga, known as gym yoga, is an aerobic workout that typically focuses on increasing your heart rate and burning calories. This is accomplished through a full-body workout.
Yin Yoga is a practice that balances the slow-paced Yin yoga with the traditional Yang yoga (Ashtanga and Hatha). Yin/Yang yoga has its roots in China in the Taoist concepts of yin, a feminine, passive, cooling energy and yang, a masculine, dynamic, warming energy.
Flow Yoga is the general term given to any style of yoga asana in which the practitioner moves dynamically from one posture immediately into another, following the breath. This continuous flow of movement and breath generates a meditative state, encouraging practitioners to let go of thought and focus on experience of the present moment. In flow yoga, each movement into or out of a posture is timed with an inhalation or an exhalation in a choreographed sequence.
